Barrow - Lake District Walk

Saturday 11th September 2010

This was a very well timed walk. On a day that was forecast for showers we managed a dry walk that began as one shower ended with the next, very heavy, shower arriving when we were sat in the pub in Braithwaite.

Start: Stoneycroft (NY 2327 2173)

Route: Stoneycroft - Rowling End (303) - High Moss - Outerside (304) - Stile End (305) - Barrow (306) - Barrow Door - Stoneycroft

Distance: 5.5 miles     Ascent: 591 metres      Time Taken: 4 hours 30 mins

Terrain: Rough scramble up Rowling End.

Weather: Breezy but dry.

Skiddaw

For much of the walk the tops of the higher fells, like Skiddaw and Blencathra, remained in cloud.

Causey Pike

The original intention had been to do Causey Pike but after Rowling End I didn't fancy another wet scramble so we walked around it instead.

Skiddaw

The cloud has finally and very briefly cleared from the top of Skiddaw.

Bassenthwaite

Bassenthwaite and Lord's Seat from Barrow. We lingered on the summit for a while enjoying a tea break and the great views before heading back to the car.
